Fund Raiser Completed!

This fund raiser is officially completed.  I'd like to thank everyone for your support in allowing this fund raiser to be an over accomplishment!  We were able to more than double the original goal!

Total Amount Raise: $3,835.00

27.67 Miles Completed!

I may not be the fastest runner but I finished exactly what I wanted to do (plus an extra 1.5 miles) so am quite happy.  My heart pumping and breathing all felt perfect the entire time however my lower body feels like I was hit by a bus and watched it reverse back over me hundreds of times.

All in all this fund raiser will bring in just short of $4,000 after the large donation for completing the run is in.  Thanks everyone for all your support!

You can see the Run Keeper - GPS Route of yesterday's run if you'd like.

(FINALLY finished Victory pose!)

Ready For A Run!

Only two more days to go until I'll be ticking away down the Schuyklill and completing this fund raiser.  We've already raised well more than the initial goal so I'm as happy as could be but any additional donations are not overlooked from CHOPs perspective.

Also - for a guy who was recently prescribed blood thinners and now ALWAYS cold, the weather sure looks like it won't make me happy on Sunday!!

Booooo!  I HATE the cold now!  Some of you may see this running from Oak's to Philadelphia on Sunday FYI

Thanks again for everyone's help and support so far!

How To Run A Marathon

This always makes me laugh and is fairly similar to my honest beliefs on training for a marathon.  It's the method I followed on my first one over a year ago and will get me to the finish line next month.

A Reason Why...

Today I caught up with an old friend only to find out since we last spoke that her daughter had a serious surgery done at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in December.  Her youngest daughter (Victoria Cucinotta) had a craniotomy.  She was the 3rd child ever at CHOP to have this procedure done because of her condition of "fibrous dysplasia"...they had to decompress her left optic nerve and completely rebuild her left eye from a graft obtained from the right side of her forehead.  The surgery took a totoal of 12 hours and left her in the ICU for 6 days.  Thankfully she is doing extremely well, back in school, and healing like nothing ever happened.  Her mom says she owe's this all to the skills and knowledge of the doctors at CHOP.  With out them she probably would have ended up blind.

Hearing stories like this just make me realize how important a hospital like CHOP truly is and how they can help out kids and families out there.  Not just one's you read about but even those of people who are close to you that you don't even realize.

You can read more about her story here at CaringBridge.org

In The News!

Currently there are two news articles about my story (that I'm aware of).  Below are links to each, Thanks Brenda and Alyson for the support!

Increased goal amount!

The original goal of $1,500 has been met today so I bumped it up to $2,500.  We'll see what we can raise before the run!  Thanks so much for all the support!

Challenge Sponsor Found!

Today I was contacted by two very generous (wish to remain anonymous) donators who will sponsor the marathon challenge aspect of this fund raiser.  They will donate up to $1,500 if I complete the marathon, on top of whatever has already been raised before March 17th!

Shock & Awe

I uploaded this blog yesterday and only informed a few friends of the idea and a forum I frequent and already (less than 24 hours) we have raised $615.00.  I was shocked during my morning workout when I kept getting email alerts of donations.

On my side, I'll be working with my doctors to get the 100% verification that they don't see any high risk to me in even attempting a little jog.  Once cleared, I'll make the next update and everything should be set.

Thanks everyone for the immense support already to CHOP.  It's amazing!

In Need Of A Company Sponsor

For this fund raiser to go according to plan I'm in need of a company or lead sponsor who would be willing to match up to $1,500 of the goal.  If you're interested, please contact me at gruntermcbride(at)gmail.com.
